The park covers about forty five hundred square miles in the mountainous regions of central Siberia and the Tunka River Valley. For most of the year, the region is a sub-arctic environment, but some areas have fertile soils. The park is full of giant rifts, glacial valleys, lakes, springs, meadows, waterfalls, and alpine. Taiga and tundra forests sustain unique and diverse ecosystems. Over three hundred species of animals inhabit the beautiful park, including the endangered, gorgeous snow leopard and Asiatic wild dog. The Tunkinsky National Park is also a great tourist spot. There is a small spa resort in the town of Arshan that is located at the base of the Sayan Mountains. Its main attractions are the numerous carbonate mineral springs. Infrastructure has been developed all over town including hotels and cafes. The area is also great for backpacking, kayaking, mountaineering and rock climbing
