Miracle on Ice

I am sure everyone is familiar with the Disney film Miracle, which portrays the 1980s hockey olympics in Lake Placid, New York. The final game was between the United States and Russia, and it was known as one of the most influential hockey games in the world. This was during the time of the Cold War when Russia was in a very dark and tyrannical state. Hockey gave the people of Russia a proxy to live a better more enjoyable life. The final score of the game was 4-3 USA, which was a huge upset considering that Russia was favored to win. This game was dubbed the nickname “Miracle on Ice” because of how miraculous the game was. Although Russia lost it still sparked a light of hope in the People of Russia and gave them something to take their minds off of the Cold War.
